THANK YOU ALL for a great photography exhibit on Saturday. It was truly an awesome event! The work was great, the participants were top notch, the whole thing came together better than I had even hoped for. I can not even begin to estimate how many people attended, it was packed all night from the time the doors opened at 6pm until 10pm when we closed down – at least 600 and probably 1000, since the faces kept changing all evening. I heard fabulous compliments all evening. All I can say is WOW and job well done.

Come to the SCAD Atlanta Photography Exhibition - this is a juried show with over 100 photographers, students, faculty, staff & alumni participating with a variety of photographic based works.

The exhibition is ONE NIGHT ONLY at Atlantic Station - Atlantic Drive & 18th Street - in Midtown Atlanta, just off of 17th Street. The exhibition is held at a unique space, just above Doc Greene's - take ESCALATOR 5 to the 2ND LEVEL. 6-10pm.

This photographic event is held in conjunction with Atlanta Celebrates Photography and the Society of Photographic Educators Southeastern Annual Conference.

The event was co-curated by Judith Pishnery, Marlene Hawthrone-Thomas, Deidre Tyree Smith, Taylor Lupton, Gabrielle Sirkin, Jennifer Jacoby and Eric Mason.

Exhibition Space provided by Atlantic Station. Refreshments provided by the 19th Street Cafe, Boneheads and Rosas Mexicana.

Show info - hanging times

Hanging times for show: please plan on attending one of these time slots, if you cannot, you must notify me immediately. Bring tools & supplies to hang your work. (we will provide the labels for the show).

Saturday – Oct 10: 1:00-4:30pm
Sunday – Oct 11: 11:00am-1:30pm

LOCATION: Atlantic Station, Atlantic Drive & 18th Street, directly above Doc Green's, take escalator 5 to the 2nd level, on the right, across from the Bodies exhibit.

Your payment of $25, cash or check, is due when you deliver your work.

Invites can be picked up when you come to hang your work – there are approximately 15-20 invites per person to hand out or mail. We are creating a Facebook Event Invite and also an email invite that you can send to your friends, family, etc.

The event is also listed in the Atlanta Celebrates Photography festival guide (printed and online) it is event #130 (10,000 printed guides, and more than 100,000 people visit the ACP website www.acpinfo.org during the month of October – weekly updates are emailed to the ACP email list. The attendees at SPE (southeast) in Atlanta will be invited also. Signs will be posted throughout the Atlantic Station shopping district the day of the show, 1000s of people visit the area each weekend, and Atlantic Station is including the show info in their weekly email to their retail and corporate tenants.

Note to Savannah entrants

I have had numerous questions from Savannah people on how to get their work to Atlanta for the show – please communicate among yourselves in Savannah and organize someone (or a group) to bring the work and hang it. You could post a note in the photo-department, or organize thru the comment section here.

PHOTO SHOW UPDATE

The list of accepted participants and the selected works will be sent out today (via email) - lots of great images!

If your work was accepted-Here’s what you need to do next:

frame your work* (Michael’s, Sam Flax, Warehouse Framers, other), prepare work for hanging (works larger than 20"x24", do not need to be framed - if you can hang them without framing)
*** alternative presentation methods are fine, as long as they look good with the work - if you have any questions, please ask jpishne@scad.edu - thanks
pay $25 to Judith Pishnery – cash or check – you can do this when you come to hang your work next weekend (this payment is - to cover cost of show (announcement in ACP guide, invites, materials to clean space (cleaner, paint), serving items for reception)
Invites will be ready to distribute next week – pick up in photo department in Atlanta – specific day will be announced when they are ready
Show will be hung on Oct 9, 10 & 11 (Friday, Saturday, & Sunday – schedule TBD)
-the show space is at Atlantic Station (Atlantic Drive & 18^th Street, directly above Doc Greene’s – take escalator 5 to the 2^nd level)
work must be delivered to the show location in Atlantic Station (Atlanta) and
each participant is responsible for hanging their own work and must attend one of the scheduled times to hang their work
work must be ready to hang (matted, framed, wired) when you show up
bring supplies to hang your work – nails, hammer, wire, hangers, etc.
You must hang your own work on one of these days (Oct 9, 10, 11 – times TBD),
if you cannot attend and hang your work – you may arrange to have someone else hang it
or choose to drop out of the show (please let us know if you choose not to participate)
Day of show - each participant is responsible for bringing food & drink (a snack and a liter bottle of a soft drink)
we will provide: cups, ices, plates, napkins, serving items (bowls, baskets, utensils)
Additional food will be provided by 19^th Street Café, Boneheads, and Rosas Mexican, possible cash bar provided by 19^th Street Café –TBD

*the committee reserves the right to reject work that is not acceptable in print quality or presentation.

The show will be fabulous.

2009 SCAD Juried Photography Exhibition
(including students, alumni and faculty)

We are accepting entries from all SCAD-ATL photography students & alumni for a juried exhibition, which will take place on October 17 at Atlantic Station, in conjunction with Atlanta Celebrates Photography.

Submission Guidelines:
-Students may submit up to 3 entries, jpegs - sized at 800 pixels on the long side. (all works will need to be framed for the exhibition).

-Entries must be titled as follows:
Last Name_First Name_Title of Work (example: Doe_John_Awesome.jpg)

SCAD Atlanta Photography fall exhibition info

A juried exhibition of photographic based works by students, alumni, faculty and staff of SCAD/Atlanta to take place in conjunction with ACP (Atlanta Celebrates Photography) and SPESE (Society of Photography Educators SE) is being planned for October 17, 2009. The exhibit is presented as an Art Walk and will take place in the Atlantic Station Shopping District bordered by 17th & 19th Street, Market Street, and State Street. A variety of spaces from storefronts to restaurants to unfinished spaces provide a unique viewing experience. Maps and signage will guide visitors to the various locations within the district.
